Le Congr\u00e8s a le pouvoir de le modifier, et ce nombre a vari\u00e9 de six \u00e0 dix au fil du temps. Le nombre actuel de neuf juges est en place depuis 1869.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/about-the-white-house\/our-government\/the-judicial-branch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>La Cour supr\u00eame dispose d&#039;un pouvoir de contr\u00f4le juridictionnel, ce qui signifie qu&#039;elle peut d\u00e9clarer inconstitutionnelles les lois ou les actions du gouvernement. Ce pouvoir a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tabli par la Cour elle-m\u00eame dans l&#039;affaire historique Marbury v. La Cour accorde le certiorari, ou accepte d&#039;entendre une affaire, lorsqu&#039;au moins quatre juges votent en ce sens. La Cour n&#039;accepte g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement que les affaires qui impliquent des questions constitutionnelles importantes ou des lois f\u00e9d\u00e9rales<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/about-the-white-house\/our-government\/the-judicial-branch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>La Cour supr\u00eame fonctionne sur deux sessions : la session d&#039;octobre et la session d&#039;avril. Chaque session commence le premier lundi du mois et dure jusqu&#039;\u00e0 ce que toutes les affaires soient tranch\u00e9es, g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement fin juin ou d\u00e9but juillet. La Cour entend les plaidoiries d&#039;octobre \u00e0 avril et rend ses avis de novembre \u00e0 juillet<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/about-the-white-house\/our-government\/the-judicial-branch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Le syst\u00e8me judiciaire f\u00e9d\u00e9ral comporte trois niveaux : les tribunaux de district, les cours d&#039;appel de circuit et la Cour supr\u00eame. Il existe 94 tribunaux de district, qui sont les tribunaux de premi\u00e8re instance du syst\u00e8me f\u00e9d\u00e9ral. Il existe 13 cours d&#039;appel de circuit, qui examinent les affaires des tribunaux de district. Il existe une Cour supr\u00eame, qui est l&#039;arbitre final du droit f\u00e9d\u00e9ral.<a href=\"https:\/\/constitutionus.com\/constitution\/what-is-the-judicial-branch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Les juges f\u00e9d\u00e9raux si\u00e8gent \u00e0 vie, \u00e0 moins qu&#039;ils ne d\u00e9missionnent, ne prennent leur retraite ou ne soient destitu\u00e9s et condamn\u00e9s par le Congr\u00e8s.
